I would only make a small adjustment to your explanation. Yes all this nightmare is a reaction to Obama's election. But it's not about "receiving attention again". It's simply about "never a non-white president again".

And I'm not sure if bringing up Monica Lewinsky in the context of the Epstein scandal is doing Mrs Lewinsky any service. A Canadian nobody like me is a Galaxy away from any capacity to ask her directly, but I'm pretty sure she'd rather not have her name mixed up with this story.

We read often comments from progressive Americans wishing their states to become Canadian provinces. In reality not a lot of them could really do this without seriously endangering the balance of wealth and power within Canada.

Same with the state of New York for example, we couldn't absorb it without destroying the Canadian identity in the process. California (or even the whole West coast for that matter) can very easily be its own very prosperous country.

I can see the small New England states do it, I can see a couple of midwestern states like Minnesota do it also. But California alone is on par with the whole Canada in terms of number of inhabitants, and surpasses it completely in terms of wealth and power.
