More interesting to see how the Waymos cope with Londoners who know they can walk out in front of the cars when crossing the road as they'll always safely stop!

Did you know @londoncentric.media isn't posting when your stories are published?

It's unclear if she would "struggle to be re-elected" to the council - FPTP and tactical voting makes it a crap shoot.
Someone is even paying out for focus groups this week in Westminster - for a local election 😱

Indeed. And if you haven’t paid, you only get charged a maximum fare.
There’s no other penalty for evading fares, so you just need to keep a contactless card on you to avoid a penalty fare or investigation.

Yes, but they can’t tell if the bank card has been used to touch in or not. If you just walk on the DLR and get inspected, scanning the payment card costs you a maximum fare, not a penalty fare - and your details aren’t taken so you can carry on evading without consequence.
January 14, 2026 at 9:26 PM
The check being 'do you have a contactless card', as opposed to checking if you've previously touched in.
Tech limitations result in this crazily-low number of penalty fares being issued - if you're a fare dodger with a bank card, you just get charged the maximum fare instead.

I think we all know how this will go 😱 Good news is that your *next* doorbell will be the work of a moment thanks to the ubiquity of PoE 😀

Really interesting articles and points of view shared over the years - many thanks for everything you did. So nice to see you grow 👍🏼 hope you can still share some perspectives from time to time.
The new expanded size of F1 (how many hours now broadcast a year?) isn’t comparable with other hobbies!

So surprising that Ocado actively changed their system this year so you only get a receipt emailed to you an hour after it's been delivered, rather than before!

12 issues of The Onion newspaper for £55?

How do we make inspectors more effective? There's 500 of them, and between them they catch 49 fare evaders a day across the entire TfL network.

You and I could stand at a Zone 1 gateline and catch 50 evaders pushing through wide barriers in a single shift.

It's not the greatest design by Heathrow (due to the complexity of Irish passengers needing to avoid immigration but go through customs) - if you're distracted for a few secs and miss this sign you're in for a world of hurt as the guy discovered.
I'm sure he's since recognised his mistake, right? 😬

Though the stupid blogger illustrates the photo with a picture of Heathrow T2's international arrivals corridor, not understanding that as a Common Travel Area passenger he would have gone a different route (and indeed, the illustration dumps you in the exact same place, it's a fake split).

It uses less electricity, but as we get wilder price variations with a couple of hours of super cheap leccy (c/o massive solar uptake or BG/Octopus offers) appliances that are less efficient but faster may be beneficial soon!
September 7, 2025 at 9:50 AM
Looks like there could be some easy wins... SWR Trains caught 1,800 fare evaders in 5 days at Royal Ascot, TfL caught 18,000 fare evaders in a year on London Underground.
Catching just 50 people a day sounds like the team isn't particularly effective when you see how many people bump the wide gates

"There is no suggestion Mr McCluskey breached Unite's gifts or hospitality rules because there was no such policy" 😂

So helpful! At least you're getting the £100s from Nationwide, crazy that it's faster to open a new account via an app than it is to pay in a cheque in person 😂
July 5, 2025 at 11:54 AM
Good plan, though if it does get lost HMRC will send you another one.
Do you have a post office in a small shop near you? They often have minimal queues, might be faster than visiting a bank branch.
But all this is crazy in 2025!
July 5, 2025 at 11:51 AM
*not being, unless there's a crazy scoop here!

Worth looking at how many articles talk about the CEO's other massive business Holiday Swap, which is worth a fortune (but doesn't have many customers reviewing it on Google / Trustpilot)

The alternate theory (which relies on a large number of unlikely things occurring at the same time) would be good filler for an hour www.avherald.com/h?article=48... Maybe the final part of the documentary is just a slide about Occam's Razor?

It's not true though - regular councillors don't have a significant workload, they don't get paid very much (you need a 'real' job as well), it's certainly not more work than a 9-5 job. Put the quote down as 'wishful thinking'.
