VERY IMPORTANT LIFE UPDATE. Good news I promise! I have attached the full explanation as attachments (alt text friendly). But here's the gist:

Update:

I figured this would be an easier way to say everything at once, instead of making a massive bluesky comment chain. I have some big news to share.
As many know, I have been doing my indie dev work when I could after my full-time job work shifts (so basically the late hours of the weekdays). and it was taking up a lot of my mental bandwidth to do. Part of the problem is that the job I had was completely divorced from anything dev related. So, to compensate, I had to take it upon myself to teach myself literally everything when I could. It was tough, but I was making do.

However, as time went on, it became apparent that if I kept going at the route I had been on, it was never going to be an easy jumping off point to start considering work in game dev, be it directly related or an offshoot of it. To put this in perspective, I graduated April 1st of last year with my bachelors, and it’s April 1st now, again. A whole year, and I had told myself I would have been actively seeking work a few months after graduation.

Quite a wake-up call to realize that. All this to say, as of last night I made a very important decision: It was time to rip the band aid off and throw in my two weeks. That’s right: In two weeks, I will be officially on the hunt for work myself.

It’s admittedly a bit scary. I don’t feel like I am ready, but in reality, I don’t feel like I ever “would” be ready. So, with that news, I want to give everyone an update on what this means:

CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1:

As far as indie dev goes: I will be able to pour a LOT more time into learning what I need to make my first game. This is not going to change. It was ultimately the most important part for me when I was making this consideration. I am in my late 30’s, and this learning stuff is getting more tough as the years go on. I just need more time, and this is one of the best ways to get that. Work on my game(s) is not going to slow or stop: It’s going to increase.

As far as work goes: It’s going to be incredibly important for me to find work in something game dev related. There are a couple of reasons for this. One being, building up valuable and much needed experience so I can start capitalizing on my time spent, and start building up a much stronger foundation to make things a lot easier on me. This is probably going to be more on the coding/programming side of things, or something of that nature. Or a job related to it.

As far as bluesky goes: Nothing changes, you’re stuck with me lol. If anything, I would be more active, but I am not going anywhere.

PAGE 2 START:

How you can help: I will be jobless, but I will be fine for a while, but of course the sooner I find work, the better! If you happen to know of any work, be it paid, or unpaid, please just keep me in mind and toss it my way! I am not picky. I don’t have a specialty, but I do tend to do better with coding/programming stuff where I have the most experience in. I am also an Unreal Engine dev, and I do not use Godot or Unity. The sooner I dive into the industry, the better. Otherwise? I am going to be working on my own stuff in the meantime!

That should just about cover everything. But, I really want to make sure everyone is on the loop, and I know long papers like these usually mean bad things. It’s not: Just traditionally long winded me spouting off some updates and happenings.

I don't take a sleep aid, but it has "become" a sleep aid for me because I wasn't waking up as often cause of the errant acid creep in my throat.

It's always when we think "pffft, I don't need that no more" that it always comes back with a vengeance, always!

I feel this one big time. I started taking a pre/probiotic that is a blend of flora that tends to work to reduce gerd/heartburn related issues. Been doing it for about a month, and have been enjoying actual reduced symptoms. Miss out on it once thinking it couldn't hurt, boom: back, worse than ever.

I am "this" close to having an entourage of elderly wealth on speed dial to fix all my problems.

I just won't be promising them stardom and asking for investments for a play I want to fail.

I am not Nathan Lane enough to pull it off however, that's my only holdup.

Gene have you played Siren before? I can't recall if you mentioned you had or not.

The ported version on PS is actually pretty good. You get a good rewind timeline and everything (like the same way Legend of Dragoon works). If you are in that kind of mindset going through the old SH games.

She's burned in my mind, as well as that whole music video of the halloween episode as I used to have a channel that was playing scooby doo episodes on loop for our cats, and I always managed to catch it on that episode.

Not getting into spoiler territory, because, of course, but yeah.

I mean, stories such as Toy Story have incredible impact even when the characters are literally toys. That only happens when the writing does it's due diligence to make you care about the soul, not the physical reality.

If your goal is to not ruffle feathers and appeal to the widest margin of everyone, then sure, your pockets will be fatter.

But your creative wealth, the driving force behind it all, must suffer to appeal to the widest.

If you aren't saying anything, you are saying everything.

For the ending(s) to have any tangible or believable impact, you have to buy in to certain things and you have to accept them for the face value that they propose. If learning what you learn in the game makes the rest of it seem easy, then not enough work was done in making them believable. I agree.

Yeah like Calico basically said, it's a strong concept on paper but there has to be an almost grass roots level of generation of buzz if you are coming in any later than the original start of it. It's just not feasible for 95% of the users. Some find their footing, I never really did.
