Guerin et al. present a highly resolved timeline of chromatin and DNA methylation dynamics during early neural progenitor cell differentiation. Their approach demonstrates that chromatin and DNA methylation mechanisms operate on different timescales to mediate short- and long-term gene enhancer regulation.
