Widdington, Essex, St Mary the Virgin. Last year I lead members of the Essex Historic Churches Trust on a visit here. It’s more or less a rebuild by Ewan Christian of a medieval structure.

I've been remiss in celebrating #Auktober, so here are four delightful pics of the smollest one, the Least Auklet from Kiska Island, Alaska (where there are 1.2 million PAIRS in about 2 km sq).

Bonus early PhD Alex for scale.

Wonderful to have the @timeteam.bsky.social crew at the Mary Rose!
Had the pleasure of visiting the @maryrosemuseum.bsky.social and seeing the ship in a way few get to.
Watch our special edition of the @timeteam.bsky.social podcast to hear how they're preserving Henry VIII's flagship.

This is going to be fun - I'll be speaking at Cirencester History Festival on Saturday 1st November, in the beautiful St John's church. Expect lots on gothic architecture, the sublime, and why Henry VIII is villain number 1 in the story of British art!
