A perfect, expanding sphere of nothingness bloomed in the centre of the lab. It wasn’t a shadow. It was an absence so absolute that it didn’t reflect light, absorb sound, or register on any sensory input except for a pure, cold dread. It was the true dimension — the perfect, featureless void that lay between all reality.

Her breathing hitched. Her assistants were gone, swallowed by the expanding sphere before they could even scream. Only she remained, clinging to the shattered console, her mind racing with the calculations that had led to this. She wanted to conquer the dark dimension, to use its energy, and now its sheer, overwhelming indifference was conquering me. An infinite, crushing pressure settled in her skull. It was the presence of the Eldritch God, but it had no form, only a terrible, perfect knowledge that flooded her consciousness. You⋅sought⋅to⋅wield⋅the⋅fundamental⋅truth⋅of⋅non−existence It wasn’t angry. It was merely stating the pathetic reality of her overreach. She had treated its dimension like a resource — a tool to be scaled up.

I watched, sprawling across the cosmos, a detached amusement colouring my observations. Such destructive efficiency! Such glorious, unbridled chaos! It was a performance, a grand finale to this version of the universe that I had, admittedly, grown a little bored with.

The beige cubicle, the flickering monitor, the stack of forms that seemed to multiply overnight – it was glorious. His first act was to implement a new colour-coding system for inter-office memos, a system so complex and illogical that it immediately brought the entire flow of information to a screeching halt. Then came the requisition forms for new staplers – in triplicate, signed by three different supervisors, with a mandatory waiting period of no less than six weeks.

Bird description from iNat: Adults have a rufous tail, a distinctive white iris, and a white throat bearing a dark mesial stripe bordered. The head is brown and the median coverts of the upper wing are pale. They lack the typical carpal patches on the underside of the wings seen in true buzzards, but the entire wing lining appears dark in contrast to the flight feathers.

screengrab of the desktop, the image is mainly a monochrome photo of a low heightbuilding complex - and the version I downloaded had colored art showing through the window. i've updated art from one of the window to my artwork for the missing shadow story -- there's a dock on the right side and a panel with date, time and other details at the bottom.

I stumbled out of the house and onto the street, the cold from the shadow-stain now pulsing, spreading from my hand up my arm. It felt like a current of liquid nitrogen flowing beneath my skin. By the time I reached the main road, the grey had crept past my elbow, turning the skin the texture of old parchment. The hand, now more claw than appendage, had a life of its own; I watched it twitch, trying to grab things, trying to break them.

The iris is deep crimson or wine-red. The stork is glistening black overall with a black "skull cap", a downy white neck which gives it its name. The lower belly and under-tail coverts are white, standing out from the rest of the dark coloured plumage. Feathers on the fore-neck are iridescent with a coppery-purple tinge. These feathers are elongated and can be erected during displays.

I lifted my hand and placed it flat on the tabletop, trying to ground myself, trying to feel the cold laminate against my palm. A moment later, a heavy plastic tray laden with greasy fries and a jumbo soda was lowered directly onto my hand by a teenager looking for a seat. The weight pressed down, not on my skin, but through it. It was a profound, physical insult. It wasn't freedom. It was being walled off from life, forever. I yanked my hand away, a reflex that felt useless, but the tray didn't even wobble. I had become the furniture. I was structural support for someone else’s lunch.

Black kite - it is a medium-sized bird of prey - gliding with the wings spread. possible sub-species: small Indian kite it has less forked tail (visible in flight), and generally dark plumage without any rufous. The lower parts of the body are pale brown, becoming lighter towards the chin. The body feathers have dark shafts giving it a streaked appearance. The cere and gape are yellow, but the bill is black. The legs are yellow and the claws are black. It is looking directly at the camera. 5 different Kites in the same frame.

A very cheeky looking Green Cheeked Conure named Zeus sitting on my palm and looking at the camera, it sits leaning a little bit to the right. it has different shades of green feathers from very light to very dark, theres a white ring around its black eye. and he has a grey beak.

He actually let out a small, weak chuckle. A genuine one. It was a start. Maybe, just maybe, this one wouldn't end up in a padded cell, muttering about tentacles and Elder Gods. Maybe this one would understand. Maybe he would see the true, soul-crushing horror of the universe: the endless, baffling, illogical paperwork. My mother’s low, warning growl echoed in the back of my small chest. Protect. I ignored the pain in my ears. I planted my big back paws on the wobbling ground, lunged, and clamped my jaw onto the very tip of the giant, wiggling tentacle. “Tug-of-War!” I barked. I didn't know what I was fighting. I just knew the wiggling tentacle needed to stop wiggling, and the only way was to pull harder.

The Bloom had changed. It was no longer matte. It had a sheen now, an oily iridescence like spilled petrol, reflecting the single bare bulb above. And it had climbed. It was creeping further up the side of my neck, curling aggressively behind my ear, reaching toward my visual cortex.

I retreated to a vacant storage closet on the fifth floor, a dusty, windowless box filled with obsolete toner cartridges, tangled ethernet cables, and broken office chairs — the graveyard of things the company no longer needed. I fit right in. I fumbled for my phone, my fingers shaking so hard I nearly dropped it. I needed a voice. I needed a confirmation of my existence that wasn't contingent on a mirror or a judgemental co-worker. I needed an anchor. I dialled my father.
