It’s also about gender in this case. Corporate financing is a problem, but some of these people were just actively friendly with the guy despite being high profile enough that financing could easily be achieved in other ways.

“busy college educated, socially moderate/liberal middle age suburban women with strong social ties” . Unless the term is used in a derogatory way, is less sexist and more vaguely problematic in the same way that 99% of gendered terms are problematic.

Every label for a large group of people will be reductive (if you want a male version of this from the most recent election, see the zynternet). The wine part comes from memes women were sharing themselves and it’s mostly just easier and more fun to say “wine moms” than

Most cities have improved their bike transit (as well as things like public transit and sidewalks) during this time, though
November 14, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Yeah, the little shit answer to this question is functionally every midsized (750k-1.5mil metro population) city, which mostly went from being around as cool as the suburbs of major cities to being genuinely nice places to live.

I’m sorry your job rations your toilet paper. That’s nearly unheard of for employers, so you may want to look for a better one.

It’s likely not a good plan for democrats, but it is a good plan for Americans. Balancing immediate harm vs likely (but not guaranteed) future betterment is genuinely tough
November 14, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Like, obviously not the main point, but super weird
November 13, 2025 at 9:00 PM
I also genuinely don’t know how a 15 year old but looks 12 and can pass for 18 (what legal means to most people on the street)
November 13, 2025 at 8:59 PM
Well, you see, students are living in it and it can’t be considered NIMBYism if you’re against both the buildings and the people living in them.

The resistlib portion of wine moms are those who were particularly activated against Trump. A stereotype of this group would be women who wore a pussy hat to the women’s march, put up an “in this house we believe” sign, and started calling their representatives daily after 2016.
November 13, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Yeah, for reference wine moms generally include suburban, often college educated and involved in the community/their kids’ lives (and will complain about the frustrations of that over a glass of wine) middle age mothers.

To be fair to feminists who worked hard for updated legislation, VAWA has been a real game changer for survivors. While it still is absolutely not enough, DV organizations have been much more common and better funded in the last 30 years and protective orders have saved many lives.

It probably depends on how “elites” is defined, but around half of Fortune 500 companies were started by immigrants or children of immigrants, so I expect it would be less than expected but still a substantial portion: www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/press-releas...
Immigrants Built Nearly Half of U.S. Fortune 500 Companies
A new analysis of the 2025 Fortune 500 list reveals that nearly half were founded by immigrants or their children.

When Trump gave McMaster the South Carolina governorship in 2017, he was able to do so because McMaster was Lt Gov already. McMaster resigning for a different office would mean the current Lt Gov is the incumbent in next year’s election

However, COVID was a big hit even for them due to huge cost increases (I’ve heard of projects doubling in budget from 2021-2024). Increased/adequate yearly spending is able to absorb that over time, but it is very difficult for that to be absorbed quickly or within a single infrastructure investment
November 12, 2025 at 8:04 PM
It’s less that no amount of money would move the needle and more that this is a huge country with a ton of infrastructure and a need to spend more yearly. There are places, both on the state and local level, that have improved their infrastructure in recent years.

Also just genuinely fascinating to hear someone describe the type of life they are pushing/recommending people have with what seem to be deeply vapid examples in comparison to actually fulfilling examples for a different life
November 10, 2025 at 11:04 PM
That is a stat for white women overall, not the specific type of woman (who is not necessarily white) being described in the post. If all white woman were voted like those posting anti-ICE and anti-fascism content, Harris would have won with around 70% of the vote
November 10, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Resistlib wine moms who are posting anti-ICE/anti-fascism stuff voted for Trump????

Columbia also has genuinely good public schools and meh private ones with fewer high level classes, so at least at the time he was there it was not common even for rich kids to go to private school and he almost certainly got a worse education for doing so.

Genuinely though, I’m also from SC and CLT is a city where his life is so clearly better than that of the the past. The housing costs are higher, but the city is also wayyy better than 20 years ago and he has a much higher salary with better job opportunities.
November 9, 2025 at 12:37 AM
Especially since he works in finance, unless he changed careers, Haley specifically will be able to buy a house by his mid 20s if he wants to
November 9, 2025 at 12:25 AM
Those same dynamics shouldn’t be at play to the same extent in Charlotte, though. CLT’s unemployment is around/a bit below that of the nation whereas NYC’s is a bit above the nation as a whole. And CLT’s housing prices are not that bad in comparison to wages.
