British Logic Colloquium Day 2

It is an amazing event. I am so grateful to have been given the chance to share my thoughts and ideas 🦋 with colleagues from various backgrounds who share a love of logic.

Last year, I was overjoyed to receive an NIH NRSA fellowship to study toddler brains and caregiving effects on memory at Columbia. Last night, my grant was terminated.

I am very worried about this polarisation. But this is the leading populist reading of the social scene, and I feel that a more thoughtful public is helpless in the face of it.

A philosopher at the top of the consulting hierarchy. This really gives hope to those who have chosen philosophy with their hearts but are looking for opportunities in the business world.

David Zuluaga Martínez, one of the nicest people I have met recently, a PhD in philosophy who joined the Boston Consulting Group and since this summer is acting as one of its directors, will share his experiences and give advice on how to make this process go smoothly.

I am moving towards ideas I have been cherishing: how to prepare OURSELVES and OUR STUDENTS to work OUTSIDE academia.

The HaPoC session at APA Central Fri 28.02 (see my previous post) is about transition from academia to business.

The second session is about transition from academia to business that many of us are contemplating or are already facing. David Zuluaga-Martinez, a PhD in philosophy, now director at the Boston Consulting Group, will share his experiences and give advice on how to make this process go smoothly.

We will start by listening to Juliet Floyd (BU), who will talk about the virtues of Turing's analysis of effective computability from a philosophical point of view, and then re-read the Turing Test as an experiment in human phraseology, i.e. a human-to-human experiment in the face of machines.

I am wondering about the differences between the concept of computing, the concept of computation, the concept of computability and also about incomputable, uncomputable and non-computable. Please share your insights! In any language (English is just an example here)

I never know: if I have not published the paper yet, can I talk about its content? I do at seminars or conferences when I present the draft. I do not publish on arXiv, but so many do... I would like to write here: I have just submitted the paper on... but I am hesitant… Hm. Well, I just submitted :)

Thanks :) and yes, very nice meeting you

It is good for summarising and analysing the argument. If I am not sure if I am being clear enough, I ask Claude.
