The death penalty is morally inadmissible in every case, and must be abolished. We have alternatives for accountability that uphold human life instead of killing another person.

Pax Christi USA has long called for the closure of the Guantánamo Bay prison, which opened 24 years ago. We are proud to be one of 115 organizations that have signed this statement which reaffirms that it must be closed, without repurposing it, and that there must be redress for those held there.

Now on the 24th anniversary of the prison's opening, we are proud to be one of 115 organizations that have signed this statement led by the Center for Victims of Torture and the Center for Constitutional Rights which reaffirms that it must be closed, without repurposing it for any future detention regime, and that there must be redress for individuals who were held and whose rights were violated.

We mourn the loss of Renee Nicole Good, the woman who was murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis yesterday -- we pray for her family and loved ones. We are horrified and outraged at this action and that medical personnel were denied access to her.

Please ask Congress to speak up and oppose the unlawful act of war by the Trump administration in Venezuela. We want to see Venezuela free from the corruption and violence of Chavez and Maduro, but not like this, not by the corruption and violence of the US or others. We cannot remain silent.
