I think roughly 25% of the first season is directly about the Maquis/Federation tension, so, personally, I find that to be a decent ratio. It makes sense for that to become less of an issue going forward as it simply wouldn’t be relevant after a while. They could do more and I wouldn’t mind either.

I’m solely speaking on season one since that’s all I’ve seen (mostly, four episodes to go). I just hear people complain about it and how the show doesn’t get good until later. I’m sure it gets better, but I’m satisfied with the quality right now.

Btw, I’m writing this while watching “Heroes and Demons.” A holodeck episode with the Doctor (Scweitzer) and Beowulf? This episode rules.

A bland adversary almost highlights the strengths of the show to me, so, again, I really don’t mind that in a first season or two.

I never saw that. I mean, nothing really compares, but this shares some DNA. Nice central mystery, unique premise, good actors, and similar flashback structure.
