I LOVE retrofuturism! And even in situations where it’s just because the film is dated, I always interpret it as the setting/situation itself lacking funding. Like of course the corporation in Alien isn’t gonna give their ships cutting edge tech. They’re gonna have bottom dollar computers and ships.
