Hey, Chicago! Thursday night on WTTW I'll be featured as part of episode 3 of documentary series "The Shame of Chicago, Shame of the Nation," and Saturday morning I will be giving a presentation at the Chicago History Museum with my collaborator, Maura, about the Chicago Covenants Project.

Check out this documentary on segregation and real estate in Chicago on WTTW (PBS Chicago) starting tonight. Many, many of your favorite scholars contributed to this project (and there are a few snippets of me). This series was a long time in development and I'm happy to see it premiering.

Writing about Spottswood Robinson (L, with T Marshall, R) and can relate. He was supposed to write a research brief for Marshall on restrictive covenants in 1944 and '45. He kept delaying and giving Marshall reasons he was late, until Marshall blew up at him one time, writing "Where the hell is it?"

Should I make a fire on this chilly evening or summer Marcella’s bolognese for four hours? Why not both?

With a year to write, I'm back to counting words. Only infrequently hitting the Grafton line on writing mornings. But I tell my son about swimming, "no one day makes or breaks you. It's the consistent accumulation of work, day after day." here's my accumulation so far.
