I theorize it's due to the AOD engine, a limitation of the PS2 it certainly wasn't. I feel that due to the pressure to release the game, they ended up not having time to optimize it or anything like that.

Is it just me, or are his eyes moving when he takes the visor off his helmet? It's a shame that eye movement only exists in the second-to-last cutscene of the game; thankfully they brought it back in the remaster.
