Last night I took my socks off before bed. This morning there are three socks in that pile. Is this the most banal Christmas miracle on record?

In *A Long Game* by Elizabeth McCracken, pubbed today, this really caught: She compares the practice of writing to lifting weights, remind us that doing a lot of reps with light weights won't help you improve. You have to lift heavy things, ripping your muscles apart in the process, to get stronger.

Listening to "silver and gold" by Ella Woolsey and "Stacy" by Fiona Fiasco. Hypnotic and yet not muddy. Good writing music. #newmusicfriday

So far in #edinburgh I've eaten amazing crisp beetroot tostadas, terrible soggy pizza, fantastic pancakes, and a life-giving ham-and-cheese panini.

First day of flyering for #GooderThanGold at #edfringe and I stood near Bedlam Theatre and talked to women over 30. It was fun. My pitch: "This show is for women who take care of everyone else in their lives. What's that like?" Many responded: "Oh, so it's the story of my life then?"

Late to the frenzy here, but I read this in like three urgent hours. Speculative fiction about motherhood and death: do go on, @helencphillips.bsky.social. Also, Viv is the most enchanting and still realistic just-turning-four-year-olds on the page. #booksky

The fact that I was conflating #yellowjackets and #yellowstone put me off both of them unnecessarily. I was like, why is Kevin Costner all over a show about missing teenage girls? Duh, it’s two shows, both of which I now love.

Sometimes when I am not paying attention, I make ridiculous judgments.

Just over here using a nighttime facial towelette in the daytime like a goddamn lunatic.

I really thought we’d be over calling everything a “journey” by now. And I’m disappointed in you specifically.

Less than 3 weeks until Edinburgh! (Aug 12-17, Bedlam Theatre, @ 8pm)

“Blackly funny and brutally vivid, “Gooder than Gold” is a sharply observed memoir-come-to-life voiced by a master storyteller.”

When you start a new season of a show, you get the option to “Skip Recap.” But I’d like the option for “Extra Recap” since I forgot every single thing that happened.

I read Hunchback. Ichikawa exercises a stunning amount of literary restraint. Right now I’m listening to Little Dorrit, in audio. The juxtaposition of the two novels is remarkable. Sometimes I feel I could just spend the rest of my life rereading Dickens. This was a reminder - that would be stupid.
