I can at least appreciate the appeal of just detaching, under the present social and ecological circumstances. Like I get that.
But we're also not gonna get out of this mess without actually caring about one another enough to get hurt from time to time.

Yet the total value on the US stock market in the same year? 27.3 trillion.
Today it's around 67.8 trillion. Governments make policy decisions based on utterly fictional money.

The stock market is perhaps the clearest indicator of this, with company after company recording utterly ridiculous sums of profit and prices soaring beyond any reasonable estimate... while millions struggle just to afford enough food to survive.
