I wish her father could see her now. He would be so proud.

Today is my daughter Jessica Carter Altman's birthday.
So many chapters of her life come to mind as I look back through the years. One thing has never changed — she has always been a kind, loving person with a rare and precious gift: a generosity of spirit.

Today would have been Ray Charles’ 95th birthday. This duet we sang for my 1981 CBS special was an all-time highlight of my career! You are missed.

Today is the 238th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.
It is one we hope will endure.

Happy birthday to my friend, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Last year I recommended you read her memoir, 'Lovely One,' and this year, I REALLY recommend it. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/737094...

This 24th year of 9/11, I spent the evening with my beautiful friends, the family of SPC Chin Sun Pak Wells, known to her loved ones as "Sunny." She perished in the attack on The Pentagon. We have had many of these dinners over the years.
I cherish each one. pentagonmemorial.org/biographies/...

Giorgio Armani was a magnificent person and a magnificent designer. I enjoyed wearing his clothes my entire life. I wore this divine dress of his last year during my shoot for Harper's Bazaar Vietnam. Rest in peace.

I was a college graduate, married, and a public school teacher before I could finally get my own credit card.

I remember when women couldn't have credit cards, before 1974. This is why education is important. All must remember... none of this is ancient history.

in 1973 my mother & i went to her bank to have her ex taken off the bank account, only to be told she'd need a cosigner and to bring in her *father*. she was 35.

she did NOT need a cosigner to close the account, so she did that instead (& opened an account at the small local bank sans cosigner)

Don't take it for granted.

Today marks the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. Though it would take time to be implemented for all women, this was a landmark turning point in U.S. history.

We honor this legacy by continuing to fight for a democracy that truly represents and works for all.
