I see many posts saying software engineering is dead. But all AI coding agents are based on LLMs that need to be trained on good quality code examples. As programming languages evolve and new frameworks or APIs are released then humans will need to produce those examples. Or am I missing something?

During my 大掃除 (end of year cleaning) I found a few batteries in devices in drawers that were on their way out, like this PSP battery. Maybe time for you to check?

The British Government has dropped plans for compulosry digital ID. This is good news. However, there are other infringements on privacy that have already been proposed to go into British law. Stay informed!

I stopped posting quesrtions to StackOverflow a long time before ChatGPT was a thing. Too many reasonable questions were being shut down by moderators while questions like "Why does the result of x+++++++ in Java give this crazy number?" received thousands of upvotes.

On 8 December, politicians in the UK will be debating a petition that reached almost 3 million signatories rejecting mandatory digital ID. If you’re based in the UK, contact your MP through Big Brother Watch’s tool to oppose the plans for a digital ID system. bigbrotherwatch.org.uk/campaigns/n...
No2DigitalID — Big Brother Watch
A national digital ID system is not inevitable. We can stop Britain sleepwalking into becoming a database state. Support our campaign to create a legal right to use non-digital ID!

Imgur Geo-Blocked the UK, So I Geo-Unblocked My Entire Network
Imgur started blocking UK users. Rather than installing a VPN on every device, I set up a network-wide proxy that tunnels Imgur traffic through a VPN automatically.

I've seen this story doing the rounds and it's usually presented as a cautionary tale about vibe coding. However...

Am I the only one who thinks labelling 1920-something x 1080 video as "1080p" is old fashioned? Is anyone creating new interlaced content? Isn't progressive the default? Example image for reference, with 720p too. Especially when it's not 4:3 aspect.

Guy added what is effectively an emoji to his message and it cost him $8. I'm trying to think how he could have differently conveyed the sentiment in less than 700MB of text or photo images... www.tomshardware.com/video-games/...

I came across this handy website that guides you to choose a font for coding; I found a font that I like more than Inconsolata and Fira Code. www.codingfont.com

Following my last post, another topic I wanted to bring up is large road vehicles that have signs on the back saying "cyclists don't come near me because I can't see you, I will run you over and kill you". It's 2025, we have modern cameras and computer vision and we can solve this too.

I know this is shouting into the void; but we're told that black plastic cannot be recycled because cameras detecting plastic on a conveyor belt cannot see it. It's 2025, we have better camera sensors, lighting, better computer vision algorithms... it could be done, if the will was there. Shame.

Apple have re-invented GUIs with opacity and radiused corners. I hope they keep accessibility and the animation effects don't cost battery life.

I find myself in the position of again needing to resize my root partition on my daily use computer, even though I have already moved home, docker images and conda environments elsewhere. 64GB is not enough? How much do you need these days?
