Thank you for your valuable input! Definitely agree the study leaves much to be desired (as they often do). Hopefully more studies will be done.

Literally no one is charging $75 for a nail trim or $700 for vaccines unless the animal is so fractious they require full anesthesia. But even then, $ won’t be that high. Pics of the bill or it didn’t happen.

Blaming the vets? Seriously? You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Thank you! You too, my friend!❤️❤️

Purrs AND biscuits!😻 I’m set for the day🥰

That may be, but things weren’t done that should have been (like the recheck xray before giving the go-ahead to resume activities, & informing you of signs of problems to watch for), which resulted in much worse complications (& pain) than there would have been otherwise. Or that’s my understanding.

Every good vet/vet nurse knows that the pet’s owner/caregiver is the most important member of the pet’s vet team, & it’s critical to teach the owners what they need to know to do & watch out for at home. That was another mistake on their part.😔
December 3, 2024 at 8:59 PM
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to have thought that. This is why thorough TGH (to-go-home)/aftercare instructions are so important, & they should have included in them signs to watch out for that require urgent vet attn. I don’t understand why you weren’t given all the info you needed…
December 3, 2024 at 8:59 PM
I hope so too! It sounds like you’re in good hands now. That is something to be thankful for. Without your instincts, things could have become much worse. I hope you will remember that when the unearned guilty feelings come on. You deserve a lot of credit here.
December 3, 2024 at 7:57 PM
If you’d been advised to repeat xrays & declined them, that’d be one thing. But THEY didn’t advise to do them when they should have, & that’s on them.

I hate that he’s suffered so much too. It hurts my heart. Your mother instincts really came through for him though.❤️

I think you deserve more than them making this a teaching moment, honestly.

As soon as possible I would request Thunder’s entire medical record from old hospital— communication records, SOAPs, surgical & anesthesia record, nursing notes, aftercare/home instructions, EVERYTHING.
December 3, 2024 at 7:43 PM
Push him without doing recheck xrays first? You know I’m not one to point the finger at vets when things go wrong (bc 99% of the time it’s not their fault) but this is different. This is bad.

Please don’t feel guilty!! You’ve done your job perfectly!❤️ How would you have known to doubt vet’s orders?
December 3, 2024 at 7:38 PM
If he doesn’t already have one might be worth an internal med consult (or internal med 2nd opinion) to take another look at Thunder’s med regimen. Some GI meds can affect nutrient absorption which then affects how well the body can heal & repair itself. Vet nutritionist’s input might be helpful too.

I can’t believe this happened at a university hospital. I still hope for & believe a good outcome is possible for Thunder w the right care. You’ve done EVERYTHING right. I hope you don’t doubt that for a second.❤️…
