He’s going to be so upset when he doesn’t get it again next year. Love that for him.

It’s tradition at this point. Make playoffs, knocked out in round one, Tomlin makes some faces and non comments, rinse and repeat.

AND THATS A WRAP FOR 2025! Goodreads puts me at 256, I missed about 15 reviews, which isn’t bad!

The goal for 2026 is to try & do video reviews on 1/3 of the books I read in addition to these little snapshots :) see you soon!

“The Black Family who Built America” McKissack Daniel, C

3/5 Super unfocused, but a FANTASTIC audio book. It’s largely her biography & you follow her successes w/ acknowledging what her family built before. Her voice is powerful, warm, authentic, and authoritative (241)

“Scream with Me” Johnson, E

5/5 @bjcolangelo.bsky.social has been hyping this up & ugh the prose, the way Johnson retells the movies & highlights the feminism. The way she grapples with the legacy of domestic horror vis-a-vis the men who made its most famous entries. FANTASTIC book. We gotta scream

“Herculine” Byron, G

2/5 There are like 5 novel ideas in here and 3 of them together might have worked. All 5 don’t. Not enough demons in this demonic trans girl commune! (239)

“Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil” Schwab, VE

4/5 TOXIC LESBIAN VAMPIRES MY BELOVED. Alice is easily the least interested character & the story collapses in the end, but ugh Maria/Sabine’s story. LOTTIE. The mythology, the different way the vampires work. The Chekov’s gravedirt. So good (238)

“The Half has Never Been Told” Baptist, E

4.5/5 LONG but full of info and connections between how the US came to be & the enslavedment industry. We wouldn’t be the nation we are w/o it and acting like it was just a “south” problem is a disservice to our history & the lives taken by enslavement

“William” Coile, M

3/5 Creepy atmosphere with a nice twist (through most of the book I was going ‘if he’s just imagining William, I’m going to be so mad’ and it’s not so!) not my favorite prose, but a zippy read! (236)
