Surprisingly, I haven't actually used the word "hurt" in JLTFT—surprising because so much of the book is about overcoming the hurts of the past and learning to love yourself and find people who build you up rather than tear you down.
(This chapter is going live Oct. 1 btw)

Quite a few—like this scene in chapter 4 where Alana and Maureen rely on JT's encyclopedic knowledge of the genre to try to brainstorm an answer to how Maureen traveled back in time.

Look, I'm cheating a little on this one because it is post-sized on Mastodon, it's the only occurrence of the word strange(r) in the book, and it makes no sense without the context of all these sentences. And because I like Alana and JT's banter.

Even though I'm religious, I try to keep my books secular, apart from characters mentioning their own faith. In JLTFT, things can be explained by magic rather than miracles. That said, there are always coincidences that can't be explained, make of that what you will

I’d gotten off the freeway during “Firefly,” and from there I’d headed east. The last refrain of track nine was playing by the time I’d turned into the parking lot of the Oak Dell Inn and pulled into the shady spot at the foot of a tree where I sat now.

Only occurrence of beauty/beautiful in the book and of course it's JT being a diva 😂

These are just for the ebooks, with the print editions keeping the old covers—but print editions with the new covers will be available on Kickstarter this spring, so watch for that!

I tend to end chapters on cliffhangers to keep pages turning. This also has the side effect of working well for serialization, which is why I decided to do that for this one. It's how I write anyway, but it works well for that format!

It's definitely supposed to evoke early 00s movies like 13 Going on 30, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, etc, so I'm going for that vibe only in written form!

I would definitely say Alana is the *wisest*. She has good intuition and is able to read between the lines better than most. She has a good understanding of the human condition, I think.

“Hi there,” said the man behind the counter. He was older than my parents by probably about ten years, with gray hair on the sides of his head and a smooth bald scalp on top. I’d only met him once, but I was pretty sure this was Mrs. Hagen’s husband. “Checking in?”

Alana: "The weirdest thing happened today. I met this girl—well, I've met her before, but I hadn't seen her in a couple years. But she told me that she's not the same girl I met before. She's that girl's future self. Should I trust her?"
