there seems to be something happening, and every morning she stands at the gate— "wake up d a d d y—" and I wave to her from nothing or a bus or a place I will only dream and I am so far down and gone but her voice mouth and mind rattling the gate pulls my hand up and out to stretch my fingers and let her know I am not gone yet.

play a lion guides a princess through the jungle— a pirate fights the sharks on ship and sea, a dragon clears a castle, dinosaur stomps a marsh, and a butterfly spreads to take her all the oceans. there are places beautiful— I have been but cannot see.

descent an ankle cracks 14-foot down the ladder and the ambulance rides $400 short. looking out pale 3-story windows; I fear dissonance over death. bedpans, tiger's eye— the soft white palm of a dead mother's love. trillions of animals, billions made human— I fear I do not belong looking out pale, 3-story windows— a heron throws its nest as an ambulance below stops to turn down its light.

slouched driving through mass— my lips are dry, the tank is empty, headlight - busted, reverse light flapping off, a fender holds on by a ziptie, and I just drove 45 minutes for 5 dollars. hunched over the interstate— I am pressing the brakes and nothing is happening.
