In the end wins will determine it all. What Stearns does do get more wins than last year will be ultimate barometer, which will take many moves. If Mets make playoffs next year, then success. If you must, Polanco will prob be on par with Nimmo if you were to make a direct comparison.

30HR is Pete 2024 number, prob with better D. I would take that, but I doubt Jeff is still on team come spring.

why? He could easily replicate the most recent year. We can always cherry pick years to make an argument. Pete 2024: .240, 34HR 88RBI. Pretty pedestrian for 30M+ per year. for next 5years.

Mets dont let anything slip to media, ever. Thats why nothing nothing inspires. Diaz was a fumble of sorts, I get that. Calculated misstep for sure.

Its not massive, its the going rate for that caliber of player. Its slightly higher due to only 2 seasons. He is 1B/DH for now, but will see by seasons end. My guess is DH and backup to multiple positions in the end.

He was clutch at times for sure, but off-season is not finished yet. Its early Dec. Polanco was pretty clutch for SEA too.

I could have gone either way with, not my money, but poor defending 1B, that hits HRs is plentiful in the league. While Cohen has lots on $$ to spend, its not unlimited. You have to pick your battles. 1B is not one I would spend top dollar on with long contracts.

He is not cooked. I bet he a Nimmo put up similar WAR next 2 years. Nimmo can no longer play OF. His arm is just awful and range had decreased. This was a good contract to get out from under.

Pete walk did make sense. He is not a 1B anymore, and didnt want to DH. 5y is a huge commitment. Happy for Pete, but he is replaceable in the big pic. Diaz though, is a tough pill to swallow. Looks like the opp to win easily with LA was the factor.
