Of course, this answer is the result of having played with mutliple groups over the years, and some groups just want to smash things while others are more cerebral. The group I've been running a campaign for since 2020 is full of psych degrees, which definitely alters the game's goals. YMMV

TTRPGs make good laboratories for testing out ways of confronting challenging situations, problem solving, and trying on new responses for size. They can be excellent for working through psychological and spiritual questions in a safe environment among friends.
