Patrician cynicism having gone out of control trying to min-max equity at the cost of everything else, that is certainly topical!

Some distinctly American things:
- S'Mores
- Pumpkin pie
- Cornbread
- Southern slow BBQ with lots of smoke (and no skewers)
- "Bless your heart" (including the ironic pejorative version)
- Rich college towns
- Conventions in hotels
- The "Tough on Crime" kind of media and policing and politics

Both things can be true! The US very much definitely has a culture (arguably somewhat shared with English Canada).

But also, jokes about Americans having no culture are also just inherently funny, in the same way that jokes about Cleveland are inherently funny. 😅

I gotta try bass pedals one of those days... For sure I'd be so confused yeah haha, my left hand bassline is sorta wired into my theory brain. 🫠

Sounds like the kind of show Rebecca Sugar would do no? 🤔

Maybe the smaller scope of a board game or a video game could be appropriate.

Very cute squirrely squirrels :3

I feel this is all still downstream from the Powell Memo... Which, to subvert democracy and create this industrial feudalism, advocated for the corporate system buying out the political system.

And then this has metastasized to a buyout of the information system, and now the judicial system...

I'm just relieved it's not live action by this point. 😅

Wow. It's also a completely boneheaded move in any kind of scenario from the US point of view. The only one who'd benefit is Putin...

They must have tapes.

Exactly the right message for the current moment. We are awash in feckless enablers and court eunuchs.

Nutri-score B, c'est pas mal!

Yeah that's fair. I'm aware of the music side of this - Apple has the low latency drivers built-in, and the audio has a special flag that makes it outpriorize everything.

I'm a programmer and Microsoft had historically been kindof better at making easier to use dev tools, and less likely to break already working stuff so I've tended to easily get on the "Apple bad" train and be softer towards MS..

But of course now with MS's AI heel turn, any good will is gone haha.

It's a thing in some Quebec families but not all (for the record, not in mine), and yeah that's the usual humorous name people give it.

Interesting! Gotta admit ID played to their strengths ultimately but this "what if" is pretty tantalizing indeed.

Spent so much time on Megazeux, got me deep into programming and music composition. 👍

It's this kind of "morality bait-and-switch" you see in those online right wing political commentators... A well known one had this full arc from "classical liberal", to "anti-postmodernism", to "anti-woke", to eventually full on Trump proselytizer.

Beats me. I just turn out songs and I have no idea if I'm growing or if it's rose tinted glasses on more recent stuff.

You can see it affected by landscape: island and mountainous jungles tend to foster peaceful cultures; and inversely, easily invadable plains tend to correspond with "life is short best is to die as a honorable hero for the emperor" cultures.

That sounds a lot like the "Regal" vs "Kungic" divide. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regalit...

It's crazy.. All the knowledge workers who have no control over this mess, we're all coming to the conclusion that we're aiding a massacre.

But those who DO have any ability to help us steer off this railway to doom thanks to their spot in the system, they've all been morphed into these.. enablers.

Not liking how much parallels I can see with just-before-WW1 and just-before-WW2.
