In memory of Dr. Jane Goodall—a lifelong champion for animals, empathy, and scientific integrity. Her unwavering opposition to needless animal testing reminds us that true discovery doesn’t *justify* suffering.

At Justify, we follow in her footsteps—believing that research done with compassion, transparency, and respect for all beings is not just possible, but essential. Thank you, Dr. Goodall, for inspiring us to question the status quo and envision science rooted in kindness.

There is a lot of good taking place at UW-Madison. Still, there is a great deal of harm and I will continue to demand better or my Alma mater because human and animal suffering don’t belong in science. @whenwejustify.bsky.social

I owe so much to UW-Madison—I loved my studies (zoology and child development) and I made amazing friends. Unexpectedly though, what shaped me the most and made me who I am today is caring for hundreds of monkeys in one of the university’s primate labs and the moral injury and ptsd that ensued. ⬇️

From feeling debilitated with PTSD and alone in my guilt, regret, and grief to co-founding an organization dedicated to helping others like me who have been part of the animal research industry and are now questioning why we justify such harm… ⬇️
madelinekrasno.bsky.social
From being terrified to question or displease authority in the face of injustice to suing my Alma mater and the National Institutes of Health on the basis of free speech and WINNING… ⬇️

📍UW-Madison—come hear me speak one week from today!

It’s been quite the journey since I graduated in 2013:

From believing my mandatory public speaking course was going to end me to making a career out of humane education and public speaking… ⬇️

Getting ready to head back to UW-Madison for outreach and speaking events by diving into recent lab records only to be met with dismay and predictably finding egregious neglect. How many days did these mice go without water before succumbing to dehydration?

In less than two weeks, I’m returning to UW-Madison to share my story and join UW students who are raising awareness about the animals still used in labs today as well as the massive yet invisible cost that animal research has on the humans involved.

Presentation open to students and faculty!

As an organization made up of individuals who have lived through the trauma of working in animal labs, we know how damaging these experiences can be—not only for the animals, but for the humans tasked with carrying out the experiments. ⬇️

If you’re a current or former animal lab worker who is feeling isolated, struggling with your mental health, and/or contemplating why we justify the things we do to animals in the name of science—Justify is the community for you. 🐀

This congress is one of the most significant international gatherings advancing alternatives to animal testing. It brings together scientists, researchers, policymakers, and advocates from around the globe to collaborate on ways to reduce, refine, & replace the use of animals in science.
