Debuting this cosplay at #ECCC was a blast! I have plans for upgrades, including a Star Razor 🗡️

Other armhole is done! Quick break time then time to work on the collar. I’m so pleased already with how this elevates the coat!

Also hoping to paint some of the triangles from his art on the shoulders as well, but still waiting for a paint test to dry. In the meantime, one armhole is done! Eventually plan to outline the whole coat with the gold but don’t have time to do all of that before WonderCon tomorrow.

Oops realized I never posted a full reveal!! I was so happy with how the whole thing turned out and between two days of wearing her got the full makeup & dressing down to 1.5 hours!

Now time to plan upgrades 😈

#Laezel progress continues! Spent lots of time working with foam this week — take two of her ears are being painted, along with new antlers for my #Keyleth cosplay. I have also almost finished assembling the pauldron for #Fjord as well (not pictured)

Remade the waist wrap in some linen and already like it so much better, and got in some new silver paint and weathered the belt emblem! All that’s left is her ears!

#Lae’zel progress!! Decided I actually hate the green cotton I’m currently using for her waist wrap thing so gonna order a quick yard of linen tomorrow to replace it with. Gotta keep adding paint layers to the belt emblem thing and then Velcro and finally do her ears.

New cosplay project: Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel camp outfit! Trial one of her top is done and now I know a lot more of how I want to actually connect all these pieces, so gonna do version two soon!

With that, it was time to assemble Keyleth for ECCC on Saturday! Everyone was so kind at the con and I truly had a great time at my first convention! I am so excited to start my next cosplay build after learning so much from this first one alone!
March 8, 2024 at 8:34 PM
In the meantime I had decided to make a couple cross stitches for some of the CR cast to autograph, so that became my frantic sewing hours the last week before the convention (and during, let’s be real!)
March 8, 2024 at 8:31 PM
I made the antlers out of 5 mm EVA foam glued with contact cement and sanded using a mixture of sandpaper and a dremel tool. I primed with plastidip then did layer upon layer of acrylic paint until I was happy with it! I made a circlet out of wire to secure it to my wig with and that’s all!
March 8, 2024 at 8:28 PM
The gloves came out as “good enough” with the time I had left before the convention, so I moved onto the antlers and cross stitch projects I picked up for the con as well.
March 8, 2024 at 8:25 PM
I made a quick muslin mockup of her sleeve/glove things by taking various measurement points along my arm and smoothing the curve out. It fit well first take so then I cut out what I thought the shapes in the different browns were from reference stills and got to work.
March 8, 2024 at 8:22 PM
Then it was time to try her on! Had some odd pulling at the wing apex so clipped my seam a bit there which helped out. I finished the open seams at the neck (front/back) by hand and called the dress complete! I could finally move on to the rest of her costume.
March 8, 2024 at 8:19 PM
After that I added in an (mostly) invisible zipper (sans zipper foot bc I didn’t have one) and it was time to add the skirt lining (pictured) and finish off the lining edges at the top of the skirt and bottom of the bodice. I simply folded the edges down and did a quick felling stitch for both.
March 8, 2024 at 8:16 PM
Then it was time for the dreaded skirt “wing” appliqué hand sewing….i didn’t have enough of my green linen to just cut the shapes out from the pattern as-is, so I cut 2-inch strips and temporarily secured with hem tape until felling the inner sides of each strip to the light green.
March 8, 2024 at 8:12 PM
Pictures can only tell so many words but after re-doing the angled seams 3 times each, I was finally satisfied with how the piping looked. I then went in an sewed the lining of the bodice in and this went pretty fast!
March 8, 2024 at 8:10 PM
Then it was time for the dreaded gold piping that I chose to make myself. If I do this again, I will a) get thicker ribbon and b) thicker cording so that it’s much easier to attach through the machine, along with using a zipper foot to be more precise in said attaching process.
March 8, 2024 at 8:07 PM
Sewed the lining and outer bodice pieces and was ultimately much happier with my new dark green linen choice! Also the interfacing made a huge difference in shaping the bodice (pics 2&3) though I think I will use a heavier weight linen for the light green if I do this version of keyleth again.
March 8, 2024 at 7:15 PM
Oops fell off posting WIP things, so here’s my catch up posts! Here’s all the bodice and yoke outer layers lined with interfacing. At this point I’d already cut & sewn the skirt lining in the darker green cotton and decided to order some darker green linen instead for the outer layers (seen here).
March 8, 2024 at 7:11 PM
Finished mockup #2 last night and did the proper thing of pressing & clipping my seams as I went, which made a huge difference! Also pinned in a zipper to test fit more closely and am very pleased with how many seams I was able to align properly this time!
