When I had a hip injury a few months ago, rolling wouldn't have helped.. standing was difficult. July and August sucked.

I feel that. Yesterday, after my leg workout in the gym, I went for a casual 6 mile walk. This morning, while visiting my reading room... the sad reminder that being alone means I will be found a week later (if I couldn't get up/out).

He blends into the city the way ash disappears into wind. People rush by, screens in hand, their minds fixed on scrolling without consciousness. A street vendor’s bark cuts through the crowd as he shouts, “No Pea Soup For You!” to no one in particular.

He sits on a bench, phone silent, thumb hovering over a list of names that used to mean something. Across the street, two strangers share a laugh, sudden and candid. The sound startles him.

For a moment, he imagines what it might feel like to belong in their world. The thought comes and goes, small as breath, leaving only the quiet knowledge that everyone else carries a life just as unreachable as his.

We have picked & stored. Saved seeds. Pea pods empty, beans topped & tailed. We have cleaned out the ash from the last fire & the chimney is swept. Summer clothes put away & socks on feet. We have taken pictures of flowers & filled books with autumn leaves. We are ready.
