oh look @esp-phd.bsky.social said exactly what I was thinking re: Q6! 😇
& actively seeking multi-context opportunities to collaborate (with each other, but also with people and places that enrich our learning to continue building networks of thought/reading/writing/research/action!) #literacies

A6: I agree! I imagine classrooms where every learner’s language, identity, and creative expression are valued as part of meaning-making.
Our task is to enact that future now through scholarship, pedagogy, and community that foreground connection over compliance. #literacies

A6: For this question, I return to the Bell quote that @anna-phd.bsky.social and @esp-phd.bsky.social evoked to start the chat: "We exist only in relation." In this moment, those relations are vital to our survival. I look forward to a continued #literacies community that exists far into the future.

A5: Continuing to balance timely (e.g. AI) and more timeless topics (e.g. literacy + identity, digital literacies). I would also enjoy featured collaborators/moderators from 'crossover' fields like media studies, etc to talk about the intersections of our practice and research! #literacies
Q5: What opportunities do you hope to see from #literacies chats moving forward? (Got a chat topic suggestion for us?)

A4: I'd love to continue seeing/participating in #literacies chats here. I also wonder how we might extend (& expand) these important networks to other physical and digital places of scholarship — conferences, writing groups, etc!
Q4: A community now is more important than ever. What ideas do you have for ways we can support and build the #literacies community through this chat?

A3: #literacies has connected me with educators who remind me that literacy is collective work. These dialogues have shaped my teaching, mentorship, and collaborations across classrooms and communities.

A3: As a teacher/practitioner, I appreciate getting to connect with scholars whose work I read from afar. Now, these connections help me navigate conference spaces too! (See y'all at NCTE and/or LRA in Nov & Dec?!) #literacies
Q3: The #literacies chat began in 2012 with a Derrick Bell quote, "However self-sufficient we may fancy ourselves, we exist only in relation..." What connections have you made with others through the chat?

A2: While one particular topic isn't popping to mind, the way that #literacies chats have invited me to find teachers and researchers all over has been a huge boon to my learning! This is perhaps the purest professional learning I could have envisioned 🤩
Q2: Which topics from the #literacies chats have stayed with you and impacted your thinking or research the most?

A1: Grateful to have learned about #literacies from @esp-phd.bsky.social during my #VandyReads year down in Nashville!
Q1: What originally brought you to the #literacies chats? Were you a graduate student? A teacher? A faculty member? Have you guest-hosted?

It was Community.
It was Knowledge and News.
It was Nostalgia.
