it's pretty fine? not nearly as difficult as ghosts n' goblins but it's an interesting translation of the same structure from 2D to 3D, changes from ranged attacks to melee focus so everything is a bit slower but the environments are neat and it controls well.

wrote this off on looks alone when it showed up in my steam recommended but I saw someone playing a bit and immediately reversed that, satisfying exploration and bosses and surprisingly good art direction. big plus to the weapon that's both a whip and a hammer

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)
ruined my day again even harder than the first time I saw it
what a good movie

another excellent bite-sized puzzle platformer by NamaTakahashi, focused around maintaining powering blocks/avoiding powering traps and some other clever little ways around areas. makes me appreciate Öoo much more since it really improves the way it teaches you mechanical workarounds

cute lil metroidvania where you free your kidnapped friend from an abandoned school full of cryptids, most enemies have funny little gimmicks to fight them and the bosses and level design are real strong. tons of weapons to mess around with and the superboss is a motherfucker

solid beat em up with way too many fucking visual effects going on, but there is actually a game underneath filters and HDR. enemy variety/behaviors are very SoR-ish but weapons aren't a really big focus, more just recharging special moves and fancy combos if you can chain em

this year I've decided to cheat and put a list for top 10 Games from 2025 and top 10 from other years I beat for the first time! (I'm double cheating by counting episodic releases as standalone as well wehehe)

god DAMN they really just improve their presentation and writing each time, it feels like. the new tracks contributed are stellar and the cast of this episode are all really interesting. can't say anything further

cute game that's basically a vampire survivors but you lead around an army of plushies. rather than different characters you get costumes that have their own playstyle quirks and tone is relaxed since you can just restart waves. fun to get crazy strong even if short

really enjoyable detective game about identifying plants based on clues of an expanding book, solving issues around the town.
really nice atmosphere and though I wish it played more tricks with discovering which plants are what I enjoyed the surprises that were there.

The Pui Pui Molcar director never misses, this was extremely good
weird how it became resident evil 7 (will not elaborate)

fun little incremental game phrased as being the healer for a little party that fends off beasts, big tech tree to invest into and it branches into some neat active abilities as well as buffing your existing numbers/party. has an endless mode if you really wanna play longer

not often I get to play something that's straightforward in design but also being utterly mysterious. the world is dense with not only secrets but wacky tricks the developers play on you, bump combat's incredibly tense while also being a bit puzzly and the music rocks.

lovely rhythm minigame collection, really amazing visually. so close to Rhythm Heaven gba in structure/presentation it's a little to its detriment since I distinctly felt like I'd played all of these before, but the music and art is still very unique to it stylistically.

it's pretty fine! an alright beatemup more about spectacle what with the whole tag system and assists baked in, but it's fun for being on the easier end. the arcade mode allows you to set modifiers and stuff so worth a replay and the cast is well varied.

dire dire ducts is really bad once you pass the halfway mark and everything else is cool.

fuck me this game is good
I was kinda cold on it at first, it's so blatantly DKC2/3 but later difficulty levels hit above those and the flow just feels good in general
gotta chip away at the postgame but I'm already past % mark I thought I'd get tired of it and still diggin it
