It is estimated that Nazis destroyed 150,000 bells between 1939 and 1945.

Heartbreaking — and consistent with much of UVA’s history. It’s def Youngkin’s board — just looked at every bio and his appointees dominate. So much damage, but hoping for a major change in board makeup if Spanberger wins in Nov

Wish I heard more people saying this. Beyond part of one summer, my work has never been contingent on any really physical labor, but for many in my family that was and is work: up before dawn, heat exhaustion, extreme cold, bad knees by 40… the people who want to cosplay this have no idea

Perfectly expressed. Yes.

Thanks for posting this — wouldn’t have called to urge him to vote “no” if I hadn’t seen it

It would be a rare comfort, a sense of some system working the way it is supposed to, if her visa is cancelled and she is fined into financial oblivion

I’ve seen variations on this question in so many places. Do they think they and their parents, siblings, lovers, friends, and children as utterly insulated from disease? Is this part of end-stage terminal capitalism? I don’t wish the pain of such losses on anyone. They clearly wish it for us.

Doing the same rethink. Wishing you well as you try to navigate the decision. We’re trying to get ourselves in a headspace of being at peace with potentially losing the money — challenging but very necessary.

What is HAPPENING to this man? I am utterly confounded by the willingness to let a demonstrably corrupt and craven administration box Democrats into preemptive concessions. Warner knows good and well this is not some HR process, so why is he sea cucumbering his guts out?

The labor is the love. Thank you for this thread. I know I (and many others) will return to it as AI increasingly threatens the dignity of process, consideration, and heart thoughts

Remarkably easy to picture him beckoning to the team from a Chrysler that’s as big as a whale

If only this weren’t The Onion. Would watch the hell out of that movie

It would get the attention of some who opt out of news and penetrate the misinformation bubble around others, yes, but (and I want to be wrong) the only recent former president I can imagine doing this just died.

Or rather the NYT article makes the subject matter clear but the other article (sorry I can’t remember source) examined it as an anticipation of distress causing distress

Another article I read made it clearer that many are coming prepped to freak out at an abortion scene — many seem to faint because they think they’re supposed to.

Yes. Thank you for saying this so clearly. The headlining on this story, driving engagement, leaves out the agency of the parents. Maddening.
