Very valuable work! And I envy you the experience of handling and examining the negatives close at hand

Yes, there is strong emphasis in the exhibition panels on Burton's photographic skills and artistry, his use of lighting and ability to obtain good results while working in cramped and difficult conditions

What have you been doing with them?

The labels states that the prints were produced from the negatives at the Met, although it wasn't terribly clear if they were specially made for this location:

Exhibition of Evocative Photographs
Harry Burton’s evocative photographs of the discovery of The Tomb of Tutankhamun are currently on show at The Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester.

Thanks for the correction! 8x6 was a rough guess (they're mounted & framed) & apologies too: the Griffiths Institute supported the exhibition at MAA, not Oxford. The prints are at The Tutankhamun Exhibition, which has some great replicas - but the text on Carter's role could do with your rewriting!

I used very tall ones regularly in @uofglasgowasc.bsky.social in the early 1990s when it was on the ground floor and the books around the Reading Room went right to the ceiling. Since their later move to the top of the building I suspect the shelves were rearranged so as not to require ladders

Something old and something new - I've got Kurdish homework to do for Monday but am getting distracted by yesterday's post and relying on homemade espresso martini to keep me focused

At Exeter's Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies we have lunchtime work-in-progress sessions where colleagues can do an informal presentation in the common room on something they're working on - folk can listen and/or eat their lunch, provide feedback, suggest further reading/contacts etc

Creating subject guides also offered us the chance to review language in our catalogue descriptions. We made sure inverted commas were used to clearly distinguish words from the source text, & replaced outdated or offensive terms in the archivist's voice with more inclusive language.

Seeing the chapter on the damage to the Great Mosque of Gaza has added poignancy, however, as it was almost destroyed by Israel after this book was published & I was listening to a discussion about Riwaq's plans for rebuilding on Radio4 a few minutes ago
