DC is a beautiful town, filled with great people! This remains true whether they are talked about in the media or not. And the current government has nothing but contempt for them. It brings them all closer together, I think.

That must be hard to witness, and I understand your perspective. But I disagree that this is an across this board thing. The fight against general standards producing such an effect still exists, via individuals if not systemically. I see tons of very well taught HS kids each year, where I am.
