Definitely my biggest #achievement of the last year has been completing the Ceramic Scoping Project @artukdotorg.bsky.social. There’s now over 6000 ceramics you can search from collections around the UK!

For #museum30 day 26 there’s no better choice from the prompt ‘moving’ than the iconic dinos at the Natural History Museum!

Ive never thought of myself as a specialist of anything but I do have a lot of special interests including the study of taxidermy. I even managed to work my dissertation around it!

I started my museum career working front of house @themerl.bsky.social whilst studying at university. As a very quiet person it really surprised me just how much I loved getting to talk to visitors everyday and hear about their favourite parts of the collection!

The closest I get to consistently keeping a #diary is my bird book which contains lists of sightings and sketches from various birdwatching trips (mostly it records visits to Skomer)

There’s a real #magic to nature and learning more about the origins of local folklore is something I want to do more in the coming year. This display of traditional herbs is from Brockhampton a couple years ago.

#museum30 day 17 - Making

Museums which explore the methods used to make the everyday objects we use in our houses are always fascinating. I loved getting to see the colour tests and plaster moulds used in the ceramic production at Gladstone Pottery when I visited last!

These are just a few of my favourite objects from some museums I’ve visited in the last 12 months - there’s been lots of art, ceramics and of course natural history!

We are already halfway through #museum30 and I’ve loved seeing what everyone’s come up with so far!

Day 15 is Kindness, something I’ve been trying to be more mindful of this year is being kind to myself so this print on the wall beside my desk is a great reminder of that.

#museum30 day 14 - Heavy

I love discovering preserved elements of history just dotted about in everyday life - like this sign giving instructions for heavy loads on the canal bridge!
November 14, 2025 at 9:19 PM
I love how full the background is in this piece ‘An English Garden’ by Percy R. Craft, it looks like you could just step into the painting!

Now that I work for Art UK - a digital platform, I get to working from home. It is something I’ve adapted to so much better than I had anticipated when beginning my role.

#museum30 day 11 is reflection and I’ve gone simple today with the reflection of a bridge on one of my favourite local canal walks.

The prompt for day 11 of #museum30 is rainbow, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share these two photos taken one of my stays on @skomerisland.bsky.social Very excitingly, I’ll be spending a week volunteering on the island next summer!

#museum30 day 9 - Map

This notebook from my time as Assistant Art Curator at y Gaer is full of these maps of the galleries. As a visual person they really helped when planning new exhibitions!

#museum30 day 8 - stitch

It’s far to early to be thinking of Christmas but these ornaments from the tree at Dinefwr House are always a favourite of the season!

#museum30 day 7 - box

This incredible hat box from the V&A is the ultimate space saving solution.

#museum30 day 6 - clay

I’ve spent a year immersed in clay, in my own pottery practice and through my work on the ceramic scoping project @artukdotorg.bsky.social

#museum30 day five - ‘sharing’

This year I’ve had the opportunity to do lots of teaching in my other role as a pottery studio technician. As a very introverted person it always surprises me just how much I enjoy sharing my love of ceramics with others and seeing what they create!

The prompt for #museum30 day 4 is #sketchbook and these ones come from a display at @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social by the Dorset Deaf Activities Group.

The hand bound sketchbooks were created in response to Elisabeth Frink’s life and work, featuring sketches for the final collaborative piece.

The distinctive eyespots on the wing tips of peacock butterflies act as a defence mechanism to startle away predators. The illustration is from a ‘friendship album’ in the y Gaer collections.

For day 2 of #museum30 the prompt is ‘signage’ and there could only be one correct choice - this excellent sign from @nationaltrust.org.uk’s Newton House.
