Tomorrow we are hosting the second Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Brussels. We aim to protect people from falling into smugglers’ hands, break the business model of their criminal operations, and work on alternatives to illegal migration with over 80 delegations.

I highly value the Coalition bringing together Member States on this important topic. Today, we focused on drugs, as the Commission recently adopted the EU Drugs Strategy and Action Plan, and on the need for international cooperation and strong engagement of our agencies like Europol and the EUDA.

Nach 365 Tagen als EU-Kommissar, 84 Dienstreisen und unzähligen Gesprächen in allen 27 Mitgliedstaaten blickte ich gestern auf mein erstes Jahr zurück. Wir haben bereits wichtige Weichen für die Zukunft Europas gestellt.

Today’s meeting also concludes my mission to Malta and the visit to all 27 EU Member States within the first year of my mandate.

Today’s meeting also concludes my mission to Malta and the visit to all 27 EU Member States within the first year of my mandate.
I also visited the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) and met with Executive Director Nina Gregori. We discussed the agency’s crucial work in supporting EU Member States, making asylum procedures more efficient, and sharing best practices across the EU.

We are determined to fight the smuggling of migrants by organised criminal groups and the instrumentalisation of migration, while working together to expand the opportunities for talent mobility and fruitful people-to-people contacts.

Cyprus has our full support in its efforts to swiftly complete technical preparedness across all areas, ensuring a high level of compliance with smart border-control systems, while promoting best practices - particularly in the area of returns.

Together, we are addressing drug trafficking through operational cooperation, data sharing, and prevention measures. We must continue working together, to stop the flow of drugs. It is in our shared security interest.

Due to its strategic location and high container traffic, it is a critical point for smuggling operations. Together with @europol.europa.eu‘s Deputy Executive Director and the Executive Director of MAOC-N, we discussed ongoing operations.

I want to thank the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and @frontex.bsky.social colleagues for their work in making the Status Agreement we signed last June a reality today. Shoulder to shoulder, the border guards are safeguarding our common European borders.
