Deep in the marsh where lilies lean, A lady sleeps beneath the greens. Her skin is pale as porcelain glass, Unchanged as countless ages pass. Her hair drifts out in starlit threads, Among the reeds and flower heads. She does not breathe, she does not stir But if you speak, you'll waken her. She'll answer questions if you dare, In riddles sweet as poisoned air. Her voice is dusk, her smile is wrong It lingers far too soft, too long. She'll offer truths you never sought, And take far more than you have brought. She'll cup your cheek and hum your name, And drag you down from whence she came. No splash, no cry, no final call, Just silence where your footsteps fall. And still she waits, so pale, so fair With room for one more whisper there.
