I can read and write. I have curiosity and opinions. I like to think I abhor hypocrisy and nurture empathy, that my beliefs are supported by evidence… but we know that isn’t always the case, don’t we?
I'm fine with the far-right throwing Johnson under the bus, but can't help but notice how on-brand it is for Trump to YET AGAIN not be held responsible for something that's absolutely his fault.

I REFUSE to be ret-conned into the Boomer demographic, I've been Gen-X all my life, as is my husband two years my senior.

PLEASE just go back to ignoring us, media.

If you liked City of lost Children you should check out Amelie by the same director.

"The people of Honduras voted in overwhelming numbers on November 30th... The official body charged with counting the Votes abruptly stopped counting at midnight on November 30th."

oh, that's a problem now??

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE DEMANDING HAPPEN IN OUR 2020 ELECTION.

They can’t even get their xenophobia right… “wasn’t vetted properly” or “was radicalized here”— which is it?

This movie was a force for good in its day, helping us step away from Armageddon through humanizing humor.

Now I have the image of a xenomorph triggering a swinging paint can to the head as it attacks a suburban McMansion

The way some circles fetishize the King James Bible is indeed so weird, a modern analog would be holding up the 1990’s special editions of Star Wars as more divine than the DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K remasters.

Yes— and even in the just-a-movie sense, the movie lacks consistency with its own premise. Everything stays the same except Lennon is alive? Did he just pop into existence anew? Or are the lifetimes different for the band members but no one else in history? How different was Pete Best’s life?

I always find it amusing that google searches for international men’s day doesn’t peak around this time— it peaks on international women’s day.

Same, in April I replaced the Facebook icon with Bluesky and it’s made a noticeable difference in my mood. The FB algorithm kept burying the content from friends in a deluge of AI slop, scam ads, and anger-engagement clickbait.

The tiger shark reaction line wins as the most jarring-yet-natural memorable line, but I think my favorite is the sheriff’s ad lib in Night of the Living Dead: “yeah, they’re dead, they’re all messed up.”
