After a ballot of our members, Mainstream endorses @lucympowell.bsky.social to be Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

Thank you to all of our members for participating in this ballot.

Labour must be reset in line with pluralist, democratic socialist values. Mainstream backs Lucy to do this.

We are horrified by the appalling attack outside a synagogue in Manchester today, on the holiest day of the Jewish year. Our solidarity are with the victims, their families and the Jewish community.

Antisemitism has no place in our society. It must be confronted and defeated.

We are appalled by today's attack at a synagogue in Manchester and extend our fullest solidarity to the victims, to their families and to the Jewish community.

The horror of antisemitism must be rooted out in all its forms, wherever it rears its ugly head.

A step in the right direction, but nothing less than the total abolition of the limit will suffice.

This is what the Mainstream of the Party and the country want. If it just becomes a ‘three-child benefit limit’, millions of children will keep suffering.

Neal Lawson: « It’s up to all of us who want that decent, better society and want a programme for it to speak up. @mainstreamlabour.bsky.social was created for that. »

We're disappointed that the two-child benefit limit won't be debated at Labour Party Conference.

Social justice must be returned to the heart of Labour's programme and the mainstream of our party, which overwhelmingly backs an end to the limit, must be heard.

Delegates to #Lab25: in the Priorities Ballot, vote for 'Supporting Families'.

Let's put social justice back at the heart of Labour's programme and end the Tories' two-child benefit limit.
mainstreamlabour.bsky.social
84% of Labour members want an end to the two-child benefit limit.

Delegates must have an opportunity to debate party policy - and Labour must give children the opportunity of a life free from poverty and hunger.

In the Priorities Ballot, vote for 'SUPPORTING FAMILIES'.

❗️❕❗️More and more Labour voices are calling for an end to the two-child benefit limit.

The 2025 Labour Party Conference must debate the two-child limit and vote to end it.

🗳️ In the Priorities Ballot, vote for 'Supporting Families' to secure a debate on the two-child limit.

Labour must stand against child poverty.

🌹Labour can afford to end the two-child benefit limit.

But we can't afford for children to go hungry.

📢 Delegates to #Lab25: back 'Supporting Families' in the Priorities Ballot to secure a motion on ending the two-child benefit limit.

NEW: Labour's CAC has reversed its decision to block motions on ending the two-child benefit limit.

Without an end to the two-child benefit limit, the Government's Child Poverty Strategy is doomed to fail.

A statement from Mainstream's Interim Council below👇
We welcome that the CAC will allow Conference the opportunity to debate ending the two-child benefit limit.

Ending the two-child limit is the single biggest action that Labour could take to reduce child poverty. Today’s news offers hope for the 4.5 million children living in poverty across the UK.

This is also a win for the mainstream of the Labour Party. 84% of Labour members back the ending of the two-child limit. The CAC’s initial decision to block this motion threatened to entrench the hostility to debate and discussion that is rooting itself in our party - and undermining Labour’s offer to the country.

We urge delegates to Conference to support this motion in the Priorities Ballot. The Government’s Child Poverty Strategy is doomed to fail without an end to the two-child limit. In a country as wealthy as the UK, allowing child poverty to deepen is a political choice. This is our moment to make sure Labour chooses differently.
mainstreamlabour.bsky.social
We cannot afford for child poverty to worsen.

Nor can the Labour Party afford to stifle debate about its vision and values.

The CAC must allow motions on the two-child benefit limit to progress to the Priorities Ballot.

🌹The country will not forgive Labour for allowing children to go hungry.

That's why we're calling on Labour's CAC to reverse their decision to block conference motions calling for an end to the two-child benefit limit.
