Last weekend I challenged myself and painted my largest artwork yet. I used a full sheet and the reference was a photo I took at the top of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome a few years ago.

Lots of little things I'd change, but I'm happy with the result anyway.

Painting in the garden, without sketching - just going for it. One day I'll stop painting Japan. This day was not today

Sunset in Kyoto ⛩️
Larger painting than usual.
It gives me incredible joy to paint and relive the moments we had in Japan 🥲

I painted a few more postcards from our Japan trip.

These all were from photos taken in Tokyo.

Tomorrow, I intend to work on some Kyoto ones.

We're back home from our holiday in Japan and I started painting small postcards of scenes we saw during our trip.

1. Mount Fuji view from Lake Yamanaka
2. Azalea garden at Menji Jingu in Tokyo
3. Tokyo National Museum gardens

And this is just the beginning.

We spent the day walking around parks and gardens in Tokyo and the cherry blossoms are just gorgeous.

I also stopped at an art supply shop and got myself a set of the three primary colours. This painting was done using just the set.

First full day in Tokyo and I got to do a quick sketch at Senso-ji Temple.

Standing, holding the block and the palette on the same hand, and my husband held a bottle of water for me.

I'll definitely do a more detailed version of this once we're back home, but it was just fun.

Three days until our trip to Japan and this is all I'm hoping to see there.

We've been planning this trip for 6 months and I can't wait to do some en plein air painting of cherry blossoms.

I painted this one on a 30x45cm paper. This is larger than I usually do, but I thought I could give it a go.

From a photo I took last year during a trip to Hay-on-Wye

Dreaming of Japan 🇯🇵

My husband and I are off to Japan in a couple of weeks. I saw this photo while planning and couldn't resist painting it.

Sketchbook painting from a reference found on Pinterest.

I really wish I was the one to have taken the photo though, it looks lovely.

Second version of the lighthouse.

This time I painted on a higher quality paper and took my time with the clouds and the sea.

I modified my palette and used a few granulating pigments for texture

Feeling a lot happier with the final result.

Lighthouse on sketchbook.

I made some mistakes with the colour mixing on this one, which I noticed a bit too late.

But I'm still happy with the final result and thinking about reproducing it on a larger sheet of paper.

Sketchbook painting from a reference by the amazing watercolourist Sebastian Thommen.

City scenes are probably my favourite subject to paint but I haven't been too inspired to paint them lately.

After a day of tense politics news, I needed to unwind with a quick painting.

Hello ☺️

I'm Maisa, Brazilian living in the UK, and I'm a passionate amateur watercolour artist and I want to share my art journey here 🙂

I painted this a while ago, but it's one of my favourites.

Painted using Daniel Smith watercolours on Arches cold press.
