I haven't really understood the people who have been arguing that the way this played out was great politics. If it's basically the same CR that was offered before, then it was a lot of stress and pain on people for nothing.

Probably. I've also thought that the Epstein Files were pretty much already out in public anyway so the release will just be a rehash news cycle at best

Totally agree with this. I really fear (and tend to think) we end up with a bunch of Dems who get elected in waves and then they spend all their time just passing a bill where ICE can't wear masks but nothing else. (Should be a law, ofc, but tiny 1st step.)

I think some people view the shutdown as a way of fighting the GOP, so on that light a compromise is seen as "losing". So the shutdown has to be about 'something', but once it's a fight that 'something' isn't as important as 'winning'.
