Also credited as Maithreyi Hughes. I write fiction and poetry in English and translate from Kannada. I live in Wales.
I have begun translating Hettavara Neralu into English. Here is a glimpse. But if you read Kannada, I urge you to read it in the original.

There's no such thing as autofiction. There's only good fiction and bad fiction :D

After several hiccups and delays, my Kannada novel Hettavara Neralu finally exists as a physical object. It is yet to reach me here in the UK. These are photos my publisher sent me. He commented it's a 'fat book'. My project of getting thin and writing fat books is now half complete 😃

Not only was she not offended by this, Jane Goodall wrote a foreword to Gary Larson's book following this cartoon.
A healthy sense of humour is a sign of great intelligence. That, empathy, and kindness to animals. The planet needs Jane Goodalls now more than ever.

I'm surprised that Wiktionary quotes from Rhys' book 'Nowhere Near Milkwood' to demonstrate the usage of toasted cheese. I always thought he'd be quoted on aardvarks.

The title of my forthcoming Kannada novel 'Hettavara Neralu' roughly translates as 'In the Shadow of the Birth-givers'. It is entirely fiction but my mum has been suffering from a guilty conscience for reasons best known to herself. And this has been her attitude ever since I announced it 😃

Cover reveal of my Kannada novel 'Hettavara Neralu'! Grateful to Kiran Madalu who visualised my 420-page work of magic realist fiction with quirky subplots, strange dreamscapes, an undercurrent of humour where language is as much the message as the medium into this stunning image!

As work on the cover of my next book begins, I'm reminiscing about my first book cover nearly 5 years ago (chuckling at the author bio 😅).
I started the year as a 1-book woman. If all goes well, I'll end it as a 3-book woman :)

I made the National Library grow poppy to sell to China. Then I forced it to buy rice from me. And when it couldn't afford my prices, I shipped it off to Mauritius to grow sugarcane. Now, it spells its name Gnash Naal Lie Brie.
😈🤠😜

Had written this poem in 2022. It was published in Poetry Wales. Read it at the Aberystwyth Poetry Festival last Friday before going for a drink on the promenade and found the flags up again.
