I hope so but I have a strong suspicion that they will just find a way to convince themselves that it would’ve been even worse if democrats were in power.

It’s not about paying them to not plant anything. It’s about having to bail them out because Trump is killing their businesses because he has no idea how trade works, or he’s deliberately ruining them so that his billionaire buddies can buy their land for cheap. Either way you lose in the end.

And yet Trump is doing just that. Now he’s paying farmers to do nothing because he ruined their businesses with his stupid trade wars and by scaring away their workers.
