Buttt you can argue technically Sousuke isn’t the /main/ cast 🥲 he is a supplement to season 2, but it’s good they ended up evolving him in fs anyways with the ssk crumbs we do have… not main cast but gets main cast merch treatment and hangs out w Makoto all day everyday… main cast by proximity…

Like come onnn rin and Makoto big brother and caretaker dynamics w their families, Haru as an only child w neglectful parents, Sousuke could’ve had a unique family dynamic that drove home his competitiveness but they really didn’t know what to do w him when they committed to Rin’s haru tunnel vision

His tiny scenes with Kazuma are so…. Intimate and sweet where only close family members can understand and joke and look up to each other like that…. They really could’ve fleshed out Sousuke’s character more if they acknowledged how his decisions affected his family/his bg

Family oriented Sousuke - close enough with his parents to be thinking abt working at his dad’s restaurant post swimming, family is close enough that a cousin takes over instead, family loves ssk enough to let him pursue his dream despite injuries

Using similar familial emotional beats w knight Sousuke like I did w sdsmsn ssk bc I depict Sousuke as family oriented and knight ssk would be even more so……
