As I enter the chapel I dip my hand into the baptismal font A practiced motion such that my fingers hover without touching the water (I will not call it holy) I cross myself and the cross is dry It is not that the water burns on account of some supernatural evil Merely that I have grown to dislike the sensation of a mote of water on my forehead Like a third eye struggling to open Or a new world struggling to be born If Paul had kept his fucking mouth shut in 2 Thessalonians Maybe we could have imagined a world without hunger I consume the host and the host is dry (Transubstantiated apparently) The King of the Cosmos The Prince of Peace The Lord of Lords The Almighty Advocate Reduced to motes of wheat dissolving on my gums Growing up Catholic you hear stories of hosts transforming into motes of flesh Sometimes consumed, sometimes sent off for autopsy Presented as evidence of the divine (Autopsies aren’t peer-reviewed) The others recite the stories, almost as a prayer by rote Their eyes well up with awe Their tears salty with faith I read the stories and my eyes are dry I watch them drink down hate dressed as love Distinctions without difference that separate the wheat from the chaff The human from the subhuman The salt of their faith consumed like seawater to a shipwreck survivor A dying sailor driven mad by thirst (The host is exactly as satisfying in its dryness) The one life that we know for sure that we have, wasted consuming each other I am different, I say, and yet  I consume myself and I am not satisfied

I'm about 5 hours into this train wreck and while I agree with this reviewer, where did the idea that we "don't play Devil May Cry for the story" come from? 3 has some of the coolest cutscenes around and is legitimately moving. Maybe the plots are generic but I love my stupid half-demon sons.
