Gen-X Irish here. We were the “latchkey” kids who had to let ourselves in after school & fend for ourselves for a couple of hours. A brewing social catastrophe, it was said to be.

How much of the post-Covid gap is due to higher EU energy prices, arising I suppose largely from the Ukraine war?

That seems helpful and good to know, but the resources required to investigate and pursue false or AI-hallucinated claims would easily be overwhelmed - it still seems preferable to me to filter spam objections via a fee / pricing mechanism.

The solution has to include some sort of fee to lodge objections - preferably one equivalent to the cost of evaluating and responding to them.

No, I wouldn’t “let the kid die” or apply this to anyone under 18. But in my view an adult who refuses vaccinations without a valid reason ought to be refused care… even if that is seen as “letting them die”.

Access to NHS care should be based on proof of vaccination. Why should the state care for people who won’t care for themselves or their children?

My fear is that a future Reform or Conservative govt would trigger a border poll in order to escape ECHR, they would be quite happy to lose an ill-prepared and disruptive referendum and then simply walk away and leave Ireland to deal with the consequences. Even the
CTA might come under question.

Recent US$ weakness has flipped the usual rate response - higher Treasury yields AND FX weakness mean it is not merely no longer a safe haven - it isn’t even behaving like a DM currency - see Karthik Sangaran.
