I admittedly don't have many constant resources for poses and perspective (and I don't think I've fully mastered them). Typically I search images on Google and study the results to figure out what to do.
It doesn't always work out, but experimentation is part of the process.
I know that feeling all too well. I still like the art other folks make of the creatures, but I don't really like supporting the main company itself after everything it's been doing.
