I may have accidentally captured evidence of the spiritual existence of Mary, Mother of God. She seems to be de-materializing right in front of the camera. You can even see the electric cords that were tethering her to reality.

Note the base, in particular.

Ravello, at night. October 2025.

Anticipating Spiegelman's bio of #AmyClampitt, I pulled out my copy of her @aaknopf.bsky.social's Complete Poems & opened it to this gem,"Tidewater Winter." I love how she manages her syntax here so that it teeters on the edge of the theoretically ungrammatical but never quite tips over into muddle.

This is one of the goofier custom license-plates I've ever seen.

I always thought these were a bad idea because it's much easier to remember actual words or names-& identify a miscreant driver—than if you use half-random letters & numbers to label your car.

Moo! Moo!

For some reason, I have ALWAYS doted upon the metaphor— "the handkerchief's supreme farewell."

Better in French, of course.

So-called Boston Ivy, (actually native to #china and #japan) aka Parthenocissus tricuspidata, glows ruby red in the gardens of the famed Villa Cimbrone in #Ravello, Italy this past October.

My poem, "Yesterday's Men," appears in issue 20 (autumn/winter 2025) of Banshee. Inspired by a little health scare earlier this year & a purely domestic accident.

Vista stradale di Napoli. So kewl there's a condom dispensing machine easily available in the public roadway. Near a church, by the way.

So sad it's not working.

Seems emblematic of so much in public life, here & abroad. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

What is it about the depiction of bodies in marble that so arouses one? A promise of immortality? And dance, music, centaurs, satyrs, wine, and desire?

(Detail from a Roman sarcophagus, Museo Archeologico di Napoli.)

The anomalous, extended dramatic scene in this sonnet (the first 12 lines are just 1 nearly breathless sentence) enacts—at the level of syntax and stanzaic structure—the tragi-comic uncatchability of the mother/Dark Lady.

At the oldest house in our village, from 1767, a primal Halloween evil walks toward me, clutching an unholy child.

I can SO relate to the monster mother & the hapless, faceless puppy-critter.

LOL.

Terrifying.

Here's an example of the 8th type of ambiguity (not covered in William Empson's famous monograph): creepy, radically uninterpretable.

From a neighbor's garden. (That's a lovely "weeping" redbud next to gas-masked Santa.)

What should we take from this juxtaposition?

Miracle! We managed to catch our night-blooming cereus in flagrante delicto. If we had scent-er-rama on Bluesky, you'd be in heaven right now. The perfume is an opioid. This complex flower also looks very sci-fi, like an alien from outer space. I think it attracts moths, bats, nocturnal beetles.
