One problem might be that in his new action film he's not trying to be the every man. He's trying to be Tom Cruise in Minority Report.

Without any context I saw the greatest Reddit comment.

Ahem. I rest my case.

Then for a third tier I list tropes, tags, elements - whatever you want to call thems for most books.

These are not from 2025 exclusively but just to get a taste of what I write.

The way I classify books is first by Genre (Sci Fi, Fantasy, etc) and then by sub genre. These get a little more specific. I also let books have more than one sub genre.

Some other interesting stats, I track whether a book is standalone or in a series. Obviously since what I was doing was reading a big series a lot of my books were middle series books. I did count all the individual Cosmere series as their own series for this purpose.

A few years ago I realized that I couldn't name a favorite book (or really many books at all) that I'd read recently written by non-male authors so I started tracking it to make an intentional effort to fix that.

Obviously reading a ton of Brandon Sanderson skewed my stats for 2025.

In terms of ratings, I think I did ok. I'm pretty tough when it comes to giving out a 5 star rating. For context, I've only ever given three books a 5 star rating and it ends up being about 1 per year.

Brandon Sanderson tends to be good for me but not great so all the 3 stars makes sense.

Because I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks, here is how that same chart breaks down in hours (presented cumulatively)

I can't believe I listened to 491 hours of books last year. That's almost a month straight of listening.

Here is how it breaks out by when I started the book. I kept to a pretty good one book a month rate. Around May I was reading the Mistborn books which are short and by September was deep into 50 hour long Stormlight archive novels so I slowed down a little.

Similarly, most of the books I read were Fantasy continuing to mess with my own internal view that I'm mostly a sci fi fan who reads some fantasy on the side.
January 6, 2026 at 2:39 PM
A big caveat to address off the bat is that I spent most of 2025 reading almost every Brandon Sanderson Cosmere book so there isn't a ton of diversity of author here.

Really the dead give away should have been that One Last Adventure is an obvious anagram for Dracula Enters

I don't know what the problem was. I saw the driver parked in my parking lot. The door to the apartment complex is unlocked during the workday. He didn't try very hard.

They're not sure but they have a really strong gut feeling.

The twist is that Brainiac will be an emotionally stunted man with an ensemble of quirky friends. The movie will be set to a wacky modern soundtrack. Brainiac will have a weird little animal companion and while the movie won't be overtly sexist it will feature a lot of suspiciously sexist choices.

I'm not sure I understand the direction Gunn is taking this movie in.

Sam Altman also apparently doesn't understand how people raised children without ChatGPT so it wouldn't at all surprise me to learn he doesn't understand who his competition is.

This is the pitch for an indie TTRPG if I've ever seen one.
