The CR is obvs different, but Senate Democrats' behavior is reminiscent of the fact that on ave 48% of D senators voted for bills pertaining to GOP agenda (as IDed by Curry & Lee) each Congress w R trifecta, 2003-2022. The inverse for Rs is 12%

(from WIP w @jacobhacker.bsky.social & Paul Pierson)
percent of Ds and Rs voting for party agendas in House and Senate

This was a peaceful, humanitarian mission by civilians & volunteers—including one of my constituents. It's imperative the people involved in this aid effort are treated safely, lawfully, and released. Israel and the international community must prioritize humanitarian assistance to Gaza immediately.

This is a great opportunity for students interested in a PhD in political science in the US!

We help break down opaque parts of the application process and provide students with individualized feedback. I recommend interested students apply, especially those not coming from elite R1 universities

We will (again) be organizing PS-Prep this year.
I especially encourage (and hope to speak with) students from outside the US to apply, to understand an applicational system that is different, voluminous and complicated.
I will also encourage students early in their degree to ...

I just walked by a wall with pro-Palestine messages in Cambridge, several miles from Auchincloss's district. Two volunteers were updating it: they were the most normie-looking 60 year-old white women. I don't think these Democrats have grasped the sea change of Palestine opinion among their voters

30 House Democrats sign a letter led by Jake Auchincloss criticizing countries for recognizing Palestine

The letter also praised the Arab League’s recent statement which calls on Hamas to disarm, while not realizing the statement was part of French-Saudi push for recognizing Palestinian statehood.
The Honorable Marco Rubio
Secretary of State
U.S. Department of State
2201 C Street NW
Washington, DC 20520
Dear Secretary Rubio:
We write to urge immediate U.S. diplomatic engagement in response to the historic statement from the Arab League. For the first time, the world's Arab countries have condemned Hamas's October 7 attack, called for its disarmament and removal from power in Gaza, called for the release of all the hostages, and endorsed a path toward a two-state solution rooted in security, legitimacy, and diplomacy. While there is much we disagree with in the statement, we do believe that this breakthrough presents a rare and urgent opportunity to ensure Israel's security and create a brighter future for innocent Palestinians free from Hamas through American leadership.
We urge you to work closely with Israel and move quickly to convene key regional and international partners to broker a coordinated agreement that achieves three vital objectives: (1) the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas: (2) the removal of Hamas from political and military control of Gaza; and (3) a responsible de-escalation of the conflict to protect civilians and create space for reconstruction, governance reform, and peacebuilding.
The statement made at the conference offers a unique opportunity-one that strengthens both Israel's long-term security and Palestinians' aspirations for self-determination under accountable, nonviolent leadership. While we once again emphasize that we do not endorse everything in the text, we recognize the unprecedented nature of the declaration and believe it presents a positive shift that opens the door to productive diplomacy and long-term solutions,
We believe this approach is far more constructive than recent unilateral and performative recognitions of a Palestinian state by other nations, which risk emboldening Hamas, entrenching division, and undermining the very legitimacy and peace such recognition purports to a… list 1 list 2 list 3

It took me less than 5 mins to write a comment about how integral international PhD students are to scientific production, and to the US' economic and cultural power.

Please consider also leaving a comment on the devastating rule change for international PhD students:

I've also noticed that the nearby suburb of Lexington has had a notable number of pro-Palestine yard signs for the last ~year. It's a town with a lot of wealthy Democratic homeowners! That's hardly the Democratic constituency associated with the issue traditionally

Is anyone systematically tracking these university punishments for speech versus those for being insufficiently "woke" over the last decade?

This crusade against free speech is a disgrace. You cannot stop ideas by firing the people who speak them. You can, however, temporarily hide them from yourself.

Extremely proud of my alma mater for this new policy. I graduated without debt as a recipient of Mount Holyoke's full-tuition merit scholarship. Every student should have the profound freedoms that come from graduating without debt, and now many more Mount Holyoke students will have that chance
