Today is International Volunteer Day!

Malton Museum consists entirely of volunteers, who provide a welcoming environment for our visitors, care for the museum’s historic collections, and overall run the museum to showcase local history.

The tour commences at 11:30 am outside the Milton Rooms and will conclude at Brass Castle Brewery, where you are welcome to indulge in Malton’s brewing heritage 🍻

During the St. Clements Festival, we'll conduct a tour exploring Malton’s rich brewing history, discovering small unlicensed brewers, local breweries such as Russell’s, big names like Tetley’s, and modern microbreweries like Brass Castle.

The Malton Museum Quiz is back!

Join us on Thursday 13th November at 7:30 pm in the Milton Rooms for an evening of trivia.

The quiz will include picture rounds, a music round, and plenty of general knowledge questions, including a couple surrounding the history of our town.

The Regency Era refers to the period 1811-1820, but Regency fashion extended beyond this, overlapping the late Georgian and early Victorian periods, 1795-1837.

Georgian fashion was an elaborate display of elegance and wealth, featuring wide hooped skirts, fitted bodices and intricate details.

Today is World Architecture Day! 🏛️

Malton Museum is currently situated in the Subscription Rooms, where it first opened in 1935. The Subscription Rooms, however, have been around much longer, having been commissioned by the Fitzwilliam family and built during the Regency Era in 1814.

During the Georgian Era, race meetings were prevalent among the gentry.

Horse racing flourished in Malton and Norton, with race meetings tracing back to the seventeenth century; these posters are just two of many from the Regency period, dating October 1817 and 1818, respectively.

Septimus Severus was born in what is now modern-day Libya in AD 145, and rose to power to become Roman Emperor in AD 193 after defeating his rivals.

Comprised of 50,000 men, the emperor and his army set out to Britain in AD 208 as part of a Roman military establishment, leaving a mighty legacy.
