How do they react to reading a book or watching a movie or having a pet. Or a child?

I always wonder how these people got through life without reading books or having a pet. Books and pets sort of demand empathy, and they seem to have none. I don’t mean it moralistically. Seriously, how can one enjoy a book if unable to put oneself in the shoes of others? I don’t get it.

I’m old, so I’ve been observing people for a long time. The defining feature of “conservatives” is that they only (potentially) care about an issue when it affects them directly. The correct term for them is more along the lines of anti-social narcissists.
